Dialogue[]

  • I'm heading to Dwarven Valley
Rory Hammerstone
Thank the Forgemaster! I could very much use your help.

We Hammerstone dwarves have served the Battlehammer clan for generations, but when Baerick discovered black ice, it was like all bonds of fealty had dissolved and it was every dwarf for themself! Now half my family is wandering Dwarven Valley, scratching about like goblins for every speck of black ice dust! When they aren't killing their friends and family, that is.

My family name is being destroyed over black ice. I need someone to help me stop this madness.

  • What can I do?

After speaking to Rory Hammerstone you can receive the Picking Sides quest.

  • I can help you in Dwarven Valley.
Stokely Silverstream
Aye, we could sorely use your help.

The Battlehammer clan has all but abandoned the Valley, but a few stragglers are still trying to escape. The road before them is hard, with Hammerstone raiders, voracious ice trolls, and savage, undead barbarians all looking for fresh dwarf blood. Our kinfolk, our goods, and our homes are all in danger so long as the corrupted dwarves claim the Valley.

I can tell you where to go if you're looking to help, but you're going to need a strong arm and a valiant heart.

  • That's why I'm here.

After speaking to Stokely Silverstream you can receive the Dwarf Stew quest.

Arcane Brotherhood:

  • I am looking for work in Dwarven Valley.
Jubal Oakstaff
And you carry a contract with Anara the Cerulean. I recognize her arcane mark. Excellent.

My name is Jubal Oakstaff. I work with the Arcane Brotherhood, collecting magical sundries and cleaning up after that foul traitor Kessell. If I do well here, the Brotherhood will approve my application to become one of their number. The damnable bureaucrats and short-sighted fools of the Ten-Towns make my job more difficult every day. I will not tolerate any more obstacles.

But! You are here to help, not to listen to me prattle on about those weak-minded, slack-jawed yockels with their folk tales and backwards, out-dated economic models. You want work, yes?

  • What have you got for me?

After speaking to Jubal Oakstaff you can receive the Dark Beauty quest.

Ten-Towns:

  • I am looking for work in Dwarven Valley.
Jubal Oakstaff
And? You have signed to work with Bowen Brant and his Ten-Towns rabble. Let me explain.

You have chosen to be one such obstacle. I am forbidden from exercising violence within the walls of Caer-Konig, but if you try my patience, I just might see if forgiveness isn't easier to acquire than permission.

  • Take it easy. I'm leaving.

Arcane Brotherhood:

  • I am looking for work in Dwarven Valley.
Kinnera Foxwood
I would help you if I could, but you've signed with the Arcane Brotherhood. I'm afraid that poses a significant problem for me.

We Ten-Towners used to trade with the Battlehammer clan in Dwarven Valley, before the black ice appeared. Now the only dwarves left in the Valley are savage-minded brutes, bent only on harvesting as much black ice as they can find. This has placed a terrible economic burden on the region, as you can imagine.

And now there are rumors that Akar Kessell is alive and seeking revenge on those who buried him a century ago... Kessell was a member of the Arcane Brotherhood, you know. Perhaps you'll consider that next time you choose to sign with the most notorious evil wizards in the Realms.

  • Very well.

Ten-Towns:

  • I am looking for work in Dwarven Valley.
Kinnera Foxwood
Excellent. I see you have signed a contract with Bowen Brant.

We Ten-Towners used to trade with the Battlehammer clan in Dwarven Valley, before the black ice appeared. Now the only dwarves left in the Valley are savage-minded brutes, bent only on harvesting as much black ice as they can find. And now there are rumors that Akar Kessell is alive and seeking revenge on those who buried him a century ago... Kessell was a member of the Arcane Brotherhood, you know. I'm glad you're on our side.

  • How can I help?

After speaking to Kinnera Foxwood you can receive the Too Far Gone quest.

Completion[]

Lodos Battlehammer
Welcome to the fight! I trust Stokely, Rory, and the rest of the clan are safe and snug in Caer-Konig? Good for them. I don't know what they told you, but I promise you, the situation here is worse than you heard.

The Daledrop Vale is filled with corrupted dwarves, frothing at the mouth to get their hands on every last shard of black ice in the Valley. If they aren't mining, they are attacking the dwarves who try to flee to Caer-Konig.

Ice trolls have come down from the hills - drawn here by clever lures strung up by those no-good Hammerstones! They've gotten as far as the Valley's Heart, and the vile Hammerstones don't do anything about it.

And lastly, to the south, Akar Kessell has begun to raise an army. And I mean raise them from the dead! His old orc horde, the one we buried a century ago, is up and walking again.

Things are looking dire, that's for sure. We're glad to have you here.
