A variety of large eel native to the inland rivers of the Chultan peninsula the mkunga migrate downstream to the ocean in order to spawn in shallow saltwater inlets. Although some mkunga spend their entire lives in and around brackish estuary water or even at sea, most return upstream until they are mature.
