The admin noticeboard[]

The admin noticeboard is intended as a way to alert administrators of issues which need their attention.

This page is intended to assist in wiki administration, and to provide a centralized location for protection, unprotection and undeletion requests.

To create a new request, add a new subheading and provide a neutral, concise, and signed summary of the issue. It is suggested that any other users involved in an issue should be informed of its discussion here. New sections go on the bottom.

Permissions upgrade[]

Hey OOeyes or other admins, I've done quite a few edits now and would like to help out more. Could I get my permissions upgraded so I can move articles? Fixed a few wrongly names ones and can't preserve the history this way.
Thanks --Axer128 (talk) 15:51, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

You should be able to: Special:ListGroupRights. Registered users already have the right to move articles. There's a down arrow next to the search box; hover your mouse cursor over this and you should see a move option on any unprotected article. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 19:09, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Oh ok thanks, yea not used to this skin. --Axer128 (talk) 22:29, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

Tooltip Bug[]

I found a bug with the tooltips. When I went to Leather Armor +5, it showed the correct tooltip on the page, and if I went to the tooltip page directly: Leather Armor +5/Tooltip it displayed the correct information, but if I went to the original Leather Armor +5 page, and clicked "edit tooltip page" it instead took me to the edit page of Leather Armor/Tooltip. This seems to have been caused by Leather Armor +5/Tooltip having "|page=Leather Armor/Tooltip" instead of "|page=Leather Armor +5/Tooltip". I have since fixed this with the pages themselves, but that the switch happened at all I thought warranted letting you guys know. Riveted (talk) 00:08, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Yes, this is an issue we'll probably run into from time to time, because as far as I know, there's no way to eliminate the need for the page parameter to make edit links work. As long as we need it, there'll be the occasional mistake. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 00:26, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
I assume this means that there is no way to change the "edit tooltip page" link to look for the correct page the same way that the displayed tooltip information looks for it on the item page itself? That's why I found it strange: the displayed tooltip on the item page itself was correct; just the edit link was wrong. Riveted (talk) 01:01, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Only if it was safe to assume that tooltips would be included only on their own item pages, but this isn't so. Example: Courtesan's Wear shows the tooltips for each item in the set. This is due to way PAGENAME works in templates. Trying to link to PAGENAME/Tooltip would cause every one of the edit links to point to Courtesan's Wear/Tooltip. As far as I know, MediaWiki still provides no magic word to get at the name of the template it's transcluding, so this is a common problem in adding links to edit templates. The only solution I've ever seen is what we're doing: retyping or substituting the name of the template into the template somewhere, which leads to copypasta errors. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 01:22, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
We'd have another option too if it was safe to assume item name would always be the same as the page name, but sometimes we'll need to add things like (weapon) or (item) to distinguish something from another topic of the same name. And even if could safely assume item name and page name would always be the same, we'd need to change the system so the item name formatting was handled different because we'd need the item name in plain text. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 01:35, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
I see what you mean, now. Thanks for taking the time to explain it. Riveted (talk) 12:56, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

New extensions[]

I found a this extension:ImageMap Is it possible to add this extension?

They would help in the making guides and clickable maps
I've added it to the queue for installation. It'll probably be available sometime tomorrow. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 03:37, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Page for Promotional Giveaways History[]

I wanted to add a page compiling the various promotional giveaways that have existed (where they were from, what items were granted), similar to the one at http://orcz.com/Neverwinter:_Promo_Keys. The page was however rejected as spam (I presume because of the external site links). Is this something that wouldn't be viable under the settings of this wiki?

New accounts with few edits are not fully trusted and can't add a page like that due to the external links. Now that you have more contributions under your account, that edit would not be blocked. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 02:32, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

"You recently worked on an article" popup is messing me up[]

After I uploaded a file this morning I got a popup "You recently worked on an article. Would like to share your work with your friends?" with links to facebook and google+ and stuff. No matter what I choose this box won't go away, and it comes back as soon as I log in: My actual account (Serpinecoh) is essentially unusable at this time thanks to this message, and I tried under both Chrome and IE. As a side issue, the message itself has a diction error since it should be "Would you like to" rather then "Would like to".

Issue seems to have resolved now. Bizarre. - Serpinecoh

Uploading is failing for me[]

My attempts to upload images for the new Zen Market stuff today (September 18th) are failing. I'm not sure if this is a result of the recent wiki infrastructure changes, or my Firefox 23 -> 24 update. The upload log indicates that my last successful upload was September 16th. --Two30 (talk) 16:20, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

I've already seen reports from other wikis. We're already investigating this issue and hope to have it resolved soon. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 17:50, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
And I've now just been told that the issue has been resolved. Apologies for the inconvenience. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 17:57, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

User Page spammers[]

There seems to be a bot making new users and creating spam user-pages. -- Two30 (talk) 21:30, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

I've written a new filter that should shut this down until they adapt their pattern again. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 23:24, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

Front Page errors[]

"Invalid tag extension name" errors on the front page. I hope my front page edits weren't at fault. I don't think they were. -- Two30 (talk) 22:09, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

I think it was just a glitch. The errors I saw suggested that the wiki extensions didn't load for a few minutes, but all seems to be well now. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 22:24, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Correction: this issue appears to be recurring and intermittent. A null edit (saving without any changes) appears to fix the issue temporarily. We're investigating the issue further now and I'll leave an update when we have more information. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 21:59, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Recurring front page issues[]

Please leave a quick message here if you happen to encounter the issue above with the error messages and the {{#if: appearing in the banner. Also, if you get a partial page load (such as only the background showing up), a quick report here may be useful. Thank you. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 23:43, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

Just noticed it occurring now. -- Two30 (talk) 14:50, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Again today -- Two30 (talk) 15:21, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Multiple times today. Null edits don't last very long as a fix. -- Two30 (talk) 21:50, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Again today. Also partial page loads while editing other pages. -- Two30 (talk) 14:32, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. I wanted to make sure there wasn't just a residual issue on my end. We're continuing to investigate; hopefully we'll figure out what's causing this soon. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 22:41, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Different kind of error: banner is fine, but the rss feed and "metadesc" at the bottom are bugged. Also, still sometimes getting partial page loads when editing other pages. -- Two30 (talk) 20:35, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
Back to the previous error with "if:" in the banner. -- Two30 (talk) 16:00, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
The wiki seems very unstable today. Many partial page loads, and unprocessed templates everywhere. -- Two30 (talk) 22:11, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
Any news on the partial page loads and template breakage? The front page's RSS feed is still buggy as well. -- Two30 (talk) 20:33, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
We still don't know what's causing it, but in testing, upgrading MediaWiki to 1.21 solved the problem. Fortunately, we're scheduled to upgrade Gamepedia to that version tomorrow, so cross your fingers. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 03:14, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Unfortunately, the upgrade has been delayed. I'll update you when I know when I have a new ETA. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 19:06, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
The upgrade is now scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec 4). oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 15:42, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
The upgrade changed the format when comparing page revisions. I find the color scheme makes it quite difficult to read. -- Two30 (talk) 18:46, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
Yes, we noticed. Working our way around to fix it up. It should be much better here now. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 20:35, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Filename Characters[]

The upload interface permits characters in filenames that lead to buggy behavior. In particular, users can upload files with a "+" in the name, but the resulting file has a buggy path. See for example: :File:Orb_of_Storm_%2B3.jpg. Since "+" symbols are common in equipment names, beginners can be frustrated by this. -- Two30 (talk) 13:12, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

I've reported it to the dev team. I'm not sure if we'll be able to fix the path problem, or if we'll just have to refuse such uploads, but it's under investigation at least. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 16:02, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
It's not going to be possible to properly support files with +, and we're not sure we're going to be able to block/transform them at the upload form due to MediaWiki quirks, but we're still looking into that. For the time being, I suggest adding a notice at the end of MediaWiki:Uploadtext suggesting change the + to whatever alternative being used on the wiki. I know it's far from perfect, but it's something we can do while we sort out the upload form issues. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 17:53, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
We have found a way to address the issue. Filenames uploaded with a + will now have it automatically converted to a -. This fix is currently live. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 18:09, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the help, as usual. -- Two30 (talk) 19:14, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Other Lenguages[]

Hi, I wanna know where or when can I find this guide in Spanish. Thank you very much.

New Section:Acronyms and Abbreviations[]

Just added this whole page Acronyms and Abbreviations-- perhaps could/should have link in main page under help?

Unable to submit large page[]

I was on Preview Server starting to prepare for the next game update in the Professions Pages. I was unable to save an updated Leatherworking page (now that Scourge Warlock is being added to the profession). The browser eventually just stops trying to load and stalls out with a white screen. Is there a cap on page size? What I'm currently trying to save is over 3200 lines and there's still more to be added. I can successfully preview the page, but not submit. I've tried submitting in different browsers as well. Snoman321 (talk) 05:51, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Interesting. Maybe you could try breaking the changes into pieces, adding them piece by piece, and seeing when it eventually breaks. Also, feel free to cut out the Resources section.
Off-topic, I'm glad you can get on Preview. It just crashes for me, so I can't do much Tyranny of Dragons documenting. -- Two30 (talk) 12:21, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Not really a page size limit, but a timeout. The options would be to be, as already suggested, breaking the page up, or trying to simplify by reducing images, links, and so on that increase processing during the save. I've had similar problems before on STOWiki. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 15:12, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
I just went with making a Page 2. I suspect Artificing will need a similar treatment. Thanks! Snoman321 (talk) 16:45, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Odd. I did a small addition to the Mailsmithing page and removed more lines than I added (took out that resources section at the front) and the same problem cropped up. Has something changed?? Strange that a smaller page is timing out where there were no problems prior. Any thoughts? Snoman321 (talk) 04:35, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
I have seen that happen before on STOWiki. I can't pin it down to any specific change, unfortunately, because anything that increases the processing load during a page save can affect it. So it may be due to a newer version of MediaWiki, changes to the Gamepedia platform, adjustments in web server configuration to deal with attacks, etc. Unfortunately, the response is the same; a page timing out during a save is a warning sign that too much is going on in the page overall.
It sounds like professions have just grown too big for the original approach. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. It's not very different from the duty officer system in STO, which gave me the same problems. With a lot of other game wikis, we'd end up having the recipe information on the item page. It's probably early yet to switch to that as I think paging by level ranges is a reasonable approach for now, but in the future as they keep growing, we might have to reduce how much information we display for each recipe on the profession pages themselves. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 18:24, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

Module 4 crash[]

Since Module 4 crashes on launch when using Wine (and did so throughout its time on the playtest server), I can no longer play Neverwinter. Unfortunately, unless a workaround is discovered soon, I will lose the ability and desire to admin the wiki. -- Two30 (talk) 17:59, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

I'm sorry to hear this. I hope it does get resolved soon. You've definitely been a great asset to the wiki, and I'd hate to have see you go. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 10:37, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
Good news. The latest patch will likely let me play once again. -- Two30 (talk) 14:18, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

MediaWiki 1.23 bugs[]

I've found a minor bug since the update. If you upload a file using the MsUpload extension, and click "Insert Picture", it inserts "" The null should be some picture format arguments.

Also, everything seems larger on my screen, so I've set my browser zoom down to 90% to make it look like the pre-update wiki. -- Two30 (talk) 18:07, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

I'll get the bug reported on Monday. As for things looking bigger, 1.23 increased the standard font size in the content area. It is possible for it to be reverted back by adding it to the skin customizations in MediaWiki:Hydra.css, but unless it's actually causing problems, I think a larger font size isn't such a bad thing. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 14:36, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, the size change doesn't really matter to me, but I thought I should report it, in case it was unintentional. -- Two30 (talk) 16:13, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Another bug with MsUpload: It now automatically adds a link on the file page to the page from which you uploaded the file. For instance: File:Map_Icon_Hotspot_Dragon_Blue.png links to Vartilingorix, because I uploaded it from the page, even though I used it on Venfithar. -- Two30 (talk) 13:33, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

References to personal characters[]

Are references to people's personal characters allowed on this wiki site, or not? -- User:‎Someguyneverwinter

You're free to post stuff about your characters in your User: pages, but player characters don't belong in the main namespace. -- Two30 (talk) 16:13, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Then http://neverwinter.gamepedia.com/Grimoire_of_Time needs to be edited by someone as the entire first section of it is about a personal character and not relevant to a page for the DnD timeline and calendar, (wiki won't allow me to edit as it sees removal of the large personal character section as harmful), plus personal character references in the notes section at the end. -- User:‎Someguyneverwinter

+1 marked for deletion as not ency with several editing issues. Benio101 (talk) 03:48, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
I hardly can´t see any reason for deleting this page. There are some "personal" references because it is writen RP-like. But at least the content of the Grimoire IMO isn´t some useless stuff. So, there should at most be some editing to remove the personal references. But honestly, in this special case I didn´t even see a need to do this...
Argrosch (talk) 11:31, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
I'm still thinking about what to do. I suspect User:‎Someguyneverwinter is motivated by a grudge. However, there are problems with the page. I'm against deleting it, since realms lore is useful, but moving it to Zebular's user space might be the right move. I've added Template:Forgotten Realms to it for now. -- Two30 (talk) 12:49, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! Let me know what you want me to do or change on it. I've been meaning to go through it and reduce the usage of HTML in it, just haven't had the time. --Old Zebular (talk) 13:33, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
Can we make redirects from main namespace into our own namespaces, like Grimoire_of_Time? For example, can we make redirect from mainspaced The worst player ever to somebody's namespace or profile?
Also, can we revert others edits without a word of explain like Old Zebular? If yes, I leave wiki too. He began abusing his right here too. No reason to add new content if he reverts my edits without even exaplanation. His last explains was I quoted somebody who told to queue into PvP Domination before leaving Neverwinter and loose to MMR and get a lower opponents next day. But Matchmaking system does not care about MMR nor win/loose. This is plain abuse as I didn't quoted exploit as MMR does not takes place in MatchMaking. This only means this user have no idea about MMR and keeps abusing his rights. Same began now on Wiki. No reason to loose my time to keeps getting reverted. Benio101 (talk) 01:16, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
I never reverted an "edit" - I reverted a blatant deletion of my page by you with only a few words as an explanation as to why you deleted it. You did not contact me prior or even give a reasonable explanation as to why you deleted it, simply stating on the page itself "Original Research in main namespace; many personal issues and horrible style. Unformatted and redundant HTML tags. No category, links nor any sources nor the information what part of the game it is. Missing references and quotes made by player avatar that is not ency and should never take place in main namespace" - This came across as an attempt at vandalism, so naturally I undid the edit and awaiting for Two30 to review the changes as he has done in the past whenever I made updated to the Grimoire of Time page. As for your comments on PvP, I have never edited a PvP page, you can clearly see the edits I have done by looking in my user history, so please do not make false accusations towards me.--Old Zebular (talk) 03:34, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
Proof of lie: :File:zebu_liar.png. I reported it to Akro, unfortunatelly, no response. The only vandalism here are your user-content reverts. And do not false slander me -- Benio101 (talk) 07:30, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
The wiki and official forums (or wherever that image comes from) are separate. Please do not carry any dispute from there over to here. As far as I know, the admins here do not have any authority on the forums. We can only deal with the matters that happen here on the wiki. And his contributions bear out exactly what I believe he intended to say, which is that he has not reverted any PvP-related content on the wiki. I don't see any deception here.
I also see no intentional act of vandalism on either side. Adding a delete template to the top of a page as Benio did is a standard way to request that admins, and sometimes the community itself, review a page for deletion. At the time, it was in the main namespace, so he was completely free to do so.
Reverting it was inappropriate, and it's true reversion shouldn't happen without at least an explanation in the edit summary, but I don't see any intention to vandalize here. All I see is simply an unfamiliarity with wiki practices. The appropriate thing to do would have been to discuss the matter on the talk page (or on the community discussion page if more attention was needed) and try to come to a consensus, removing the delete template only after there had been a decision made to do so by admins, or more preferably, by everyone involved. You may want to keep in mind, Benio, that Zebular has no special rights on the wiki; any role he has as community moderator elsewhere has nothing to do with anything here, so no special knowledge should be assumed on his part. Instead, even despite what may have happened elsewhere, assuming good faith in the absence of clear evidence to the contrary is part of wiki practice as well, and clearly that failed here on both sides.
Now that the page is in the user namespace, however, it would indeed be inappropriate for Benio101 to tag it for the reasons he stated, as we allow a much greater degree of freedom in one's userspace. At the time he did it, though, it was a reasonable action, though ultimately, the move is by far the better decision, in my opinion. And no, the redirect really shouldn't be left behind in this case. That was probably just an oversight, which I will take care of. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 08:53, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
I'm glad you stepped in. -- Two30 (talk) 14:11, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

I did not request deletion of the Grimoire page. I requested that it be edited to be made consistent with the editorial policy stated by the wiki admin as the edit required is not allowed to be made by a new wiki member, the wiki forum software will not allow it. The calendar information is useful for the Neverwinter wiki, it provides information that is official DnD information. The personal character references are not official WotC/Cryptic stuff, but as this is the official wiki at least in theory main page information is approved as canon by WotC. As you can see the only thing I questioned was the individual character stuff. I noticed this because there are no pages on the wiki for other well known ingame individual player characters. For instance, I could find no pages for PWE employee's GM characters, characters which might reasonably be expected to have pages on the wiki identifying them since they serve an official game function as GMs (Incidentally, I think having a page identifying the ingame GM's characters would be beneficial). The content in question on the Grimoire page was making it a defacto character page, personally taking ownership of the subject. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Someguyneverwinter (contribs).

No one is implying that you did, nor was any of my post directed at you. A deletion request for the page was made by an editor in this conversation, and then inappropriately removed by another, which resulted in the dispute above that I was addressing. Meanwhile, a decision was independently made to move the page into userspace, and that's an appropriate decision given the current issues with the page. If they were addressed, or a new page written according to standards, then such a page could certainly stay in the main namespace.
As for GM characters, I can agree with it being useful, but the devs aren't contributing to the wiki in any way I know of, so I'm at a loss as how we would collect and maintain the information in any reliable and timely way. And that's not really an administrative topic, so it would be better discussed on the Community discussion page. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 01:21, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Global AF - New spam filter[]

Global AF - New spam filter shows every new page I create. Is it possible to lift this for autoconfirmed users? Benio101 (talk) 16:00, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

I'm not seeing that spam filter message, but tooltips aren't appearing when I hover over links. The wiki is behaving strangely. -- Two30 (talk) 20:36, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
I'm getting an awful lot of false positives for this filter. I've think I've had only a single page today that I didn't have to save twice. -- IshtarNW (talk) 10:14, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
The filter has been removed now. We apologize for any inconvenience. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 18:47, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Tooltips stopped working?[]

Is it just me, or have tooltip pop-ups stopped working?

I'm using Chrome 41.0.2272.101m.

I also tried IE 8 (because that's another browser on my laptop) and the most recent Firefox (36.0.4).

All I get is a pop-up with the name of the page like for any ordinary link but no tooltip.

Have I perhaps disabled a setting somewhere?

- IshtarNW (talk) 20:17, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

As I mentioned above in the discussion about the spam filter, hover-tooltips haven't been working for me recently. I too have tried both Chrome and Firefox without success. -Two30 (talk) 22:06, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
There was a configuration change sneaked in that caused some of the variables the tooltip script depends on to be changed. I only recently stumbled over the cause elsewhere and haven't had a chance to get the fix in place everywhere yet. Additionally, I'm working on converting the script-only approach to an extension, because the current approach is pretty inefficient and inelegant in some spots, so there may be some issues in the future too during the transition. I'm guessing that will probably happen sometime in the next couple weeks. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 23:17, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
They should be working again for the time being. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 01:02, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Login problems?[]

I tried to login twice today, also did a Curse account password reset twice, and it keeps giving me incorrect password - 171.21.80.126 09:11, 2 April 2015 (UTC) (IshtarNW)

Interestingly, removing all cookies for *.gamepedia.com and a reload (without a relogin!) solved this - IshtarNW (talk) 09:52, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

Items list[]

Could we get all items list (just their names)?

It would allow us to multiquery Client_RequestItemTooltip to get all the tooltips and keep them all up to date.

For example, simple:

So if we only had the list of items (like T12_Runestone_Fine from example), we could fill and keep up to date all the tooltips.

Please, add this option. Thanks in advance.

PS It could also let us to get item tooltips for custom sites (like my guild site) right from the gateway instead of using gamepedia API. Benio101 (talk) 13:59, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

I suspect the gateway's item API is deliberately undocumented. Hammering it would probably get your account locked. -- Two30 (talk) 14:23, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
Can't we just make "gamepedia" account that would once per week update the tooltips using given items list?
I mean, allow one wiki official account to get the tooltips once a week (or whenever the toooltips are updated), cache the results and then update Tooltips?
Well, who would loose on keeping up to date tooltips on official wiki? Benio101 (talk) 15:17, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

IshtarNW promotion[]

I've promoted IshtarNW to admin. The game and wiki have felt like a chore to me lately, rather than a hobby. Hopefully sharing the responsibility will make it feel less onerous. -- Two30 (talk) 13:39, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for trusting me with this responsibility. And to get to business: I noticed that uploading a new file over a previous (for the Green Vitriol) didn't quite work. Maybe it works now that I have more privs.
Congratulations, Ishtar. Welcome to the halls of small amounts of power! oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 17:49, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Tooltip change[]

Someone made [this change]. What does this do? - IshtarNW (talk) 20:04, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

It may affect font size. The "small" class is provided by the MediaWiki software and it is what it uses for the <small> tag it provides. I honestly don't know if there's a matching large class or not. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 04:59, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
So, do we want this change (if it works?). I think it makes the displayed tooltips on all pages where they are transcluded 2 sizes larger (small -> "normal" -> large). This user that made the edit has made no other changes - IshtarNW (talk) 06:05, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Support Requests[]

What do we do with these kinds of edits? http://neverwinter.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Neverwinter_Wiki_talk:Community_portal&curid=30&diff=171744&oldid=170786

 • It's not signed, so possibly noone will ever notice when _if_ someone puts a reply on it.
 • It's not really something for the Wiki, it's for the forums, right?
 • Any answer would be a personal suggestion (e.g. "consider a high rank Elven Battle Enchantment") and not really a fact, or even a permanent fact. For example, before the re-do of Life Steal enchantments that had a bonus in this were really useful, now less.

I feel that removing the edit would be kind of rude. The Community Portal page _is_ kind of the best place for this, if we have a place for this... - IshtarNW (talk) 09:10, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

My practice is always to refer them to a better place, which is generally official forums or support, depending on the question. I agree removing it is just too rude, as it's in the wiki spirit not to bite the newcomers, which is more or less what removing them would be. But the way wikis are designed, trying to answer all of those types of questions would create a lot of clutter that makes it harder to use the pages for their real purpose, and there's usually too few people watching those pages for them to be effective as that kind of help resource anyway. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 19:20, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

Categorising items[]

I've been thinking about making categories more useful. I mean, for example - transmutes. We've got the ones available to specific class (for example: Sparkling Orb of Winter) and those available for everyone (Celestial Mantle). My idea is to categorise this stuff with categories, for example: Free Appearance Change (CW), Free Appearance Change (CW - Orb), Free Appearance Change (CW - Talisman) etc. (some of these could be hidden). It would be easier to edit categories in item's article than the whole list in separate one. I want to know what you think about it. It would be quite nice to categorise with stuff, whole stuff, not particularly transmutes. Adriaen6 (talk) 14:46, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Many Categories are simply the values in the bottom left corner of the tooltip of an item (e.g. look at the categories for the profession resources). 'Free Appearance Change' is one of those also. I don't want to lose that connection to what the game shows the player. - IshtarNW (talk) 15:03, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
Also, some categories are automatically generated together with the automatically generated tooltips. To have all those categories in a page would require manual editing of many pages. - IshtarNW (talk) 15:04, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
I know. That's just a proposition. That would be kind of improvement to make a category, for example, with armor for specific class. Adriaen6 (talk) 15:34, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
Anyone can make, as you noticed, new categories. But, please don't remove anything from existing categories if you're not really sure - IshtarNW (talk) 15:44, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Few of the anonymous spammers that get through the abuse filters do so again, at least not for months, so we usually don't bother blocking them unless we see repeats. It reduces the risk a legitimate editor ends getting assigned an IP we blocked later on. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 02:03, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
We've had a new influx of many spammers, I suspect there may be something wrong with the spam filter. Could you check? Is there also some way to have that spam cleared up by some maintenance bot? It's quite a lot to do manually, which I am attempting at the moment ... FridiEU (talk) 10:30, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

What to do with outdated pages/information[]

I've been running into a LOT of content that has not been updated since the launch of Elemental Evil, which changed pretty much everything. Look at the history of other pages, it seems as though some of these pages were updated to state that the items are no longer available in game, or that said content had been removed. Other pages were simply flagged as candidates for deletion. Which course of action is preferred? I don't want to waste my time updating pages when they should really be deleted, so it would be nice to know. -katamaster818

Yeah, it looks like the community admins have gone inactive. I'm usually more for marking as removed, at least if it's easy to get it out of current categories (which it usually isn't due to infoboxes autocategorizing). Otherwise, deletion is easier. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 14:30, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for the reply, that's what I will do. Is there any way I can get permission to delete pages? Other than FridiEU, nobody active has permissions, and it seems as though Fridi only handles stuff regarding official blog posts, patch notes, and deleting some of the spam. -katamaster818 13:30, 22 February 2017 (EST)

How to handle content that is different between platforms[]

Hate to bug you OOeyes, but I had another question, and I would appreciate your input. Neverwinter is currently out on three platforms, all of them running a different version of the game. There are a bunch of small and large differences between each version. How have other wikis with this scenario handled differentiating these items? My biggest concern at the moment is all of the weapon enchantments. They were all *drastically* changed this module, and as I was updating them last night, it occurred to me that if I replace the outdated tooltips with new ones, the information provided will not be relevant to players on XB1 and PS4. Should I duplicate the existing pages, and make the changes on the duplicate? At first, I thought that maybe adding flairs for each platform like the Neverwinter reddit uses would work, but I realize now that in this scenario, flairs won't help, because it's not an article that needs to be changed, it's the actual tooltip. Hopefully you have some experience and ideas that could help with this conundrum.... -katamaster818 (talk) 19:39, 22 February 2017 (EST)

Actually, I don't think this has ever come up for a wiki using tooltips. My instinct would generally be to just go with flairs except where things happen to be significantly different, in which case duplicate pages might be the easiest, and might help with the tooltip problem as well. Otherwise, might just go with flairs in the tooltips themselves as well. That doesn't replicate the in-game look, of course, but short of an time-consuming major overhaul to show multiple tooltips for each link, I'm not sure what else to do there. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 01:05, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, I think I will go with adding flairs to the tooltips then. Any suggestions on how to implement flairs, or should I just add it like I would a currency icon? Sorry for so many questions, this is my first time setting up and editing a wiki from the back end of things, I'm more used to editing text and using prebuilt templates. -katamaster818 (talk) 20:21, 22 February 2017 (EST)
It doesn't have to be anything fancy. You could go as simple as everywhere, though having that in a template like the currency ones usually makes it shorter and easier to use everywhere. Copying and adapting one of those templates is probably a pretty good idea. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 05:09, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

How to connect it[]

How to connect it Template:Navbox. How to create a module? Tuastuk (talk) 12:56, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

The Neverwinter wikis don't have styles set up for that navbox. They've used their own style, such as Template:Character stat nav. I'd recommend copying one of those and editing as needed. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 16:25, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

Global AF Issue[]

I was trying to update a page the other day, but kept getting caught by the Global AF. It keeps saying, "Global AF - New user adding link at end or in heading." I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I was trying to add a link to a relevant Neverwinter Forums post, but when I finally saw that message, I tried updating the page without adding the link and still got that message. —TheDefiant604 (talk • contribs) 09:32, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

There were a couple coding errors with that filter that made it more aggressive than intended. I think I've corrected these issues, and you should be able to make the edit in question. We apologize for the inconvenience. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 12:37, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

Spammer(s)[]

The talk page Talk:The Burning Heart seems to be targeted by spammers. Twice now, I've cleared a bunch of gibberish from the page, which looks like someone's trying to add external links. It's been two separate IPs so far, but they're in the same block:

Sever performance is not good[]

Several issues have occurred after server migration.

 • Server responds slowly, initially almost "Curse Error" displays and must be to reloaded many times.
 • I updated a page containing file link or other page, and then purged the cache. But results are not updated or take time to update.
 • Pages included in the category before migration are deleted from the category. But, open a page and save it without changing, it will return to category.

Overall, I feel that processing of the server is not in time, I waste more than twice as much time updating the wiki. -Hawchang (talk) 05:22, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

The platform team is aware of all of these problems and is working to correct these issues and improve performance. We're not done making adjustments, so please bear with us in the meantime. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 07:58, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Dragons dropping in seconds - leading to missing out on kills[]

Hi guys,

I'm new to the game, but it would help if the HP for open world heroic dragons were beefed up a bit - or even geared to the number of characters in the instance - so that everyone waiting for them has a chance to get a hit in and get credit for a kill. My experience this week since Mod 19 is if you're even *slightly* out of position (as a melee character) when they land, there's a decent chance you won't get a shot in before the dragon gets dropped in 2-3 seconds and you don't get any credit for the kill.

It's particularly an issue for Charthraxis in Neverdeath (because there's always 10+ people waiting for him) but is happening with all open world heroic dragons. It seems like he's dropping even faster than before.

It also seems like ranged characters are able to hit dragons before they land, putting melee characters like my barbarian at even greater risk of missing out on the kill. It's frustrating when you've waited patiently for Charthraxis to return, only to miss the kill and have to come back again 20 min later and try again (and sometimes, again).

Cheers
