Following the release of Fury of the Feywild on August 22, 2013 it became possible to "salvage" many epic level 60 items that have the type "Salvageable" in their tooltip. This destroys the item and grants a quantity of in return. There are some rare items that also have Salvageable in their tooltip but it does not appear to allow that function on them as they don't qualify in rarity.
It is important to note that the results will still need to be refined into and the 36,000 daily refining limit still applies: If you salvage a great deal of gear it could be some time before it is converted to usable currency, particularly if you are earning from other sources like daily questing.
Introduction
The Salvage process is introduced to the player during the quest Salvage Operation, which leads to Hieronymous Glim, the Salvage Trader. Salvage can be performed in the area directly behind him and similar locations elsewhere in the game.
Open your inventory and right-click on an epic magic item - this will bring up the item options menu. If you are standing within the salvage area and an item is eligible for salvage, the "Salvage" option will be available.
Clicking on the Salvage option will bring up a window showing you the Rough Astral Diamonds you will get in exchange.
Process
- Locate a Salvage Trader.
- Right click on the salvageable item.
- Click on the option "Salvage" on the item menu: If it does not appear the item may not be salvageable or you may need to adjust your position relative to the trader.
- A prompt will appear indicating the item to be salvaged and how much it will provide.
- Press OK to perform the action.
Rewards
Item type | T1 items | T2 items |
---|---|---|
Head | 4,000 | 8,000 |
Armor | 5,000 | 10,000 |
Arms | 4,000 | 8,000 |
Main Hand | 5,000 | 10,000 |
Off Hand | 4,000 | 8,000 |
Feet | 4,000 | 8,000 |
Neck | 3,000 | 6,000 |
Ring | 3,000 | 6,000 |
Waist | 3,000 | 6,000 |
Notes:
- T1 includes items bought with glory (from PVP) and Seal of the Unicorn and T2 includes items bought with Seal of the Drake. Use Rings for the best Seal-AD exchange ratio and Arms or Head for glory. Not all epic magic items such as rings and cloaks can be salvaged.
- Black Ice gear from Curse of Icewind Dale yields [Raw Black Ice] when salvaged, instead of [Rough Astral Diamonds].
- Salvaging a Golden Dragon artifact weapon yields a single [Shard of Dragon Forged Steel], instead of [Rough Astral Diamonds].
